James Chadwick

James Chadwick is a British singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from a village on the Lincolnshire-Cambridgeshire border. He works in folk and acoustic roots music and is known for writing and performing in a style that draws on a wide range of influences. He describes his approach as shaped by “everything and nothing”, while also acknowledging Bob Dylan among his influences.

Recognition

Chadwick is a finalist in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards in 2005. As part of that event, he performs to a full house at the Sage, Gateshead, and appears on Mike Harding’s Radio 2 folk programme in December 2005. Mike Harding describes Chadwick and the other finalists as “the cream of the UK’s young acoustic folk and roots scene”.

Style and comparisons

His music is compared with artists such as Nick Drake, Jeff Buckley and Jimi Hendrix, though Chadwick is described as preferring to emphasise his own individual style rather than any single comparison.
