Jaldaboath is a medieval-themed experimental folk and black metal project from the United Kingdom, associated with The Meads of Asphodel and released on Napalm Records. It is led by Jaldaboath, the name used by James Fogarty, with The Mad Monk, also called “The Mad Mullah”, on drums and Sir Bodrick on bass.

Style and themes

The project describes its music as “Hammering Heraldic Metal”, “Crusader-core” and “Tumultuous Teutonic Templar Thrash”. Its subject matter draws on the Knights Templar, the Crusades, Black Adder and Monty Python, combining medieval and humorous references within a folk and black metal framework.

Early release

Its first EP, Hark The Herald, appears as a six-track release. The earliest orders include a parchment setting out the principal knights of the Battle of Hastings, reflecting the project’s medieval presentation.
