Jakal
Jakal are a London-based UK punk band. The group is a five-piece and plays a mix of punk, ska, reggae and dub, with conscious lyrics, skanking rhythms and distorted guitar riffs. Their sound is also associated with ska punk, dub punk and crack rock steady.
Releases
The band’s first release is a five-track EP called Nation Infection, which comes out in 2003. In 2006 they issue a two-track single, Utopia. Both recordings are self-released and later go out of print. Utopia is later planned for reissue on a Tuneless Records compilation. In 2009, with a stable five-piece line-up, the band self-release their 12-track album Community.
Activity and line-up
Jakal go through several line-up changes over the years, with periods of inconsistent activity. By 2009 they have a firm five-piece line-up again and continue writing new material.
Live work and associations
The band plays shows for Climate Camp, No Sweat and No Borders, and also appears on bills linked to Pus Promos, Skawash and Reknaw, Rotten Luck, Toxic Punks, Dirty Ska Punk, Your Mum Promotions, Mudkiss and Beerbelly Promotions. They also share stages with acts including The Business, Leftover Crack, UK Subs, Headjam, The King Blues, The Filaments, Against All Authority, New York Relix, 5 Knuckle, Citizen Fish, Inner Terrestials, PAIN, Dead Pets, The Foamers, The Restarts and Moral Dilemma.
