Jacques Lu Cont is the performing name used by Stuart Price, a British DJ, producer and remixer from Bedale, United Kingdom. Born in 1977, he works across dance, electronic, electro, house and techno, and is known for using multiple aliases in his recording and remix work.
Career and aliases
He is associated with a range of names, including Les Rythmes Digitales, Thin White Duke, Paper Faces and Man With Guitar. His use of faux French pseudonyms is a recurring feature of his work. Under the Les Rythmes Digitales name, he releases the album Darkdancer, which is identified as a significant electro record from 1998.
Associated acts and collaborations
Price is also a member of Zoot Woman, a three-piece synth and guitar-based band in which he plays bass. He works with Madonna, including contributions to the Confessions album, and he also manages her tour in 2006. His sound is said to draw inspiration from the Human League album Dare, and this influence is reflected in the video for “Hey You What’s That Sound,” which resembles Madonna’s “Hung Up.”
Remixing and production work
Alongside his own releases, Jacques Lu Cont is recognised for remixes under several of his aliases. His production and remix work places him within British club-oriented electronic music, with a style linked in the text to the electro and dance scenes.
