Jack Ladder

Jack Ladder is the alias of Tim Rogers, a songwriter, musician and artist from Sydney, Australia. Born in 1983, he works in indie rock and is known for a baritone voice and songs that combine observations about love and death with black humour and personal detail.

Releases

He releases three albums: Not Worth Waiting For (2006), Love Is Gone (2008) and Hurtsville (2011). An alternative version of material from Love Is Gone, titled Counterfeits, is self-released in 2009. Love Is Gone is shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize, wins a Red Bull Music Award and is selected as Album of the Year by Who Weekly.

Live work and collaborations

His live performances change over time and include improvisation and deconstruction of his own material. Early shows are acoustic and feature cello and upright bass, before later electric trio and full-band setups. He performs with vintage drum machines, delays and the guitar sonics of Kirin J Callinan, and his live band, The Dreamlanders, regularly features Laurence Pike on drums.

Other activity

Jack Ladder tours and opens for artists including John Cale, Wolfmother, Feist, Bill Callahan and Okkervil River. He contributes bass guitar to Okkervil River’s The Stand Ins (2008) and appears on Bill Callahan’s live album Rough Travel For A Rare Thing (2010).
