Jacco Gardner
Jacco Gardner is a Dutch multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and recording artist from Hoorn, Netherlands, born in 1988. His work is associated with indie pop and psychedelic music, and he is also described as a neo-psych and baroque pop artist.
Style and influences
Gardner builds his sound from harpsichord, strings, flutes and other classical instruments, combined with psychedelic effects. His music draws on artists including Billy Nicholls, Duncan Browne, The Zombies, The Beach Boys, Curt Boettcher and early Pink Floyd.
Releases and labels
His first 7-inch single is Clear The Air backed with A House on the Moon, issued in 2012 on Action Weekend Records. His debut album, Cabinet of Curiosities, follows in 2013 on Trouble In Mind Records for worldwide release and Excelsior Recordings in the Netherlands. His second album, Hypnophobia, appears in 2015 through Excelsior in the Netherlands, Polyvinyl in North America, Full Time Hobby in the rest of the world, and Burger Records on cassette. His third album, Somnium, arrives in 2018 as a fully instrumental, synthesiser-based record centred on analogue sounds and cosmic themes.
Band activity and collaborations
Gardner’s live band includes Keez Groenteman on guitar and Jasper Verhulst on bass, both of whom are members of the synth band Lola Kite. Gardner also appears in Lola Kite’s live line-up and produces the band’s second album. He is also a member of The Skywalkers.
Later projects
From 2018, Gardner focuses on the side projects Bruxas and Metius.
