Ivo Neame

Ivo Neame is a British jazz pianist and saxophonist from Kent, United Kingdom, born in 1981. He is a member of the London-based Loop Collective and also plays in Kairos 4tet, Phronesis and Jim Hart's Gemini. He leads his own quartet and appears in other groups associated with the collective.

Background and training

Neame is born in Kent into the Shepherd Neame brewing family. He attends The King's School, Canterbury, and studies jazz saxophone at the Royal Academy of Music in London. His yeargroup there includes pianist Gwilym Simcock. He is mentored by Martin Speake, Steve Buckley and Barack Schmool, who founds the F-IRE Collective.

Collaborations and ensembles

Neame performs with a wide range of jazz musicians, including Guy Barker, Julian Siegel, Stan Sulzmann, Matthew Herbert, Jim Mullen and Tim Garland. His work spans contemporary jazz and jazz, with piano and saxophone both central to his playing.

Recordings

His trio's debut album, Swirls and Eddies, is released in 2007 and features Phil Donkin on bass and George Hart on drums. The Ivo Neame Quartet album Caught in the Light of Day is released in 2009 and features Jim Hart on vibes, Jasper Hoiby on bass and James Maddren on drums. He also records Alive in 2010 with Jasper Høiby's trio Phronesis; the album is nominated for jazz album of the year by Jazzwise and Mojo.

Live work

Neame's trio performs at jazz festivals and at venues including Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club and Vortex Jazz Club.
