Islandman is the music project of Istanbul-based musician and producer Tolga Boyuk. It presents itself as a fictional character and a musical persona, built around the idea of a dreamer composing stories about a place that does not exist.

Sound and performance

Islandman performs live as an electro-acoustic trio. Its music combines mellow electronic structures and dance beats with spacey live guitar, supported by shamanic rhythms. The project blends Turkish psychedelia with elements of African-rooted music, alongside an expansive electronic feel. Its sound is based on a balance between electronic textures and acoustic harmonies.

Releases and label

The first single, Agit (Requiem), leads to a connection with the Danish label Music for Dreams. The project then releases its first full-length record, Rest in Space, on that label in 2017.

Live activity

Islandman tours in 2018 and appears at Cappadox, Sunbeat Festival, Apple Flower Festival, Istanbul Jazz Festival, Monteux Jazz festival, and Boom Festival. These appearances place the project within a range of festival programmes spanning different musical settings.

Later work

The project also prepares the album KAYBOLA, described as continuing its cross-cultural approach, with shamanic rhythms, nomadic guitars and compact electronic structures shaping its dance-oriented direction.
