Islander

Islander is an American alternative metal band from Greenville, South Carolina. The group forms in 2011, after the members have played together since 2006, broken up for a period, and then regrouped under the Islander name. Its line-up includes Andrew Murphy, Chris Doot, Eric Frazier, Mikey Carvajal, Chris Carvajal, J.R. Bareis and Erik Shea Pedersen.

Releases and label

Islander signs with Victory Records in 2013. The label releases the band’s EP Pains and its first studio album, Violence & Destruction. The album follows the EP the next year and includes the single “Coconut Dracula”, which reaches number 24 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. The band’s material is generally well received by critics.

Style and comparisons

The band’s sound is described as alternative metal and rap metal with nu metal, hard rock, alternative rock and post-hardcore elements. Their music is compared with Deftones, Glassjaw, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Mudvayne, P.O.D. and Rage Against the Machine. Mikey Carvajal is also noted for vocal similarities to Chino Moreno, Daryl Palumbo, Jonathan Davis, Fred Durst, Chad Gray, Sonny Sandoval and Zack de la Rocha.

Activity

Islander is active from 2011 to the present and appears on the Mayhem Festival 2014 tour with label acts Emmure, Ill Niño and Wretched.
