INU

INU is a Japanese punk rock band from Osaka, active from 1979 to 1981. It is a group centred on 町田康, who fronts the band and later goes on to work in several other projects and as an author.

History and releases

The band releases its debut and only studio album, Meshi Kuuna!, in 1981. The title is glossed as “Don’t eat food!” The group splits shortly after that release. In addition to the studio album, several poorly recorded live albums appear on LP.

Related work

町田康 later forms other bands and releases several albums, which receive modest critical attention but limited commercial success. He also wins the 123rd Akutagawa Prize for Kiregire (“Shreds”) in 2000 and the Tanizaki Prize for Kokuhaku (“Confession”) in 2005. He also writes a novel with the same title as an INU song, Tsurutsuru-no Tsubo (つるつるの壺).
