Intervals

Intervals is a progressive metal group from Toronto, Canada, led by guitarist Aaron Marshall and active since 2011. The project begins as a creative outlet for Marshall after the end of his previous band. For the first release, the debut EP The Space Between, he writes, records and programs all of the instruments himself.

After The Space Between, Marshall adds three more members and turns Intervals into an instrumental band. The group tours extensively and follows with the EP In Time in 2012. In 2013, the band changes direction and becomes a vocal act, with bassist Mike Semesky taking over lead vocals. Their first album and first release with vocals, A Voice Within, appears in 2013.

Mike Semesky leaves the band in 2014. An instrumental version of A Voice Within is later released on Bandcamp. In 2015, Lukas Guyader and Anup Sastry leave the group, leaving Marshall as the only member at that point. The next album features Cameron McLellan of Protest the Hero on bass and Travis Orbin, who has played with Darkest Hour, Periphery and Sky Eats Airplane, on drums.

Intervals continues as an instrumental project with The Shape of Colour in 2015, followed by The Way Forward in 2017 and Circadian in 2020. Its sound is associated with djent, instrumental metal, progressive metal and progressive rock.
