Indigo Child
Indigo Child is a name used by more than one music act. One version is a five-piece band formed in early 2003 in a heavy-industrial town in Slovenia. Another is a London band playing an eclectic indie style, and another is the moniker of Canadian-born, Chilean-raised Gabriel Gutiérrez, who records experimental electronic, rock and folk music.
Slovenian band
The Slovenian Indigo Child form in early 2003. The band consists of five individuals and is associated with a mix of different artists and styles. Their live appearance on the Sudden Strike Tour in early 2003 draws attention from media, and they then record a demo CD called Involve Synthetic, which includes four tracks: “Involve Synthetic”, “Death”, “The Roots of Eden” and “Divine Communication”.
They continue developing a sound built around industrial electronic parts and atmosphere. Their debut album, Re-death, is recorded in 2004 and released in 2005 as a limited-edition digipak CD, which sells out shortly afterwards. Gothic and metal press describe the band as a newcomer of the year, and the video for “Involve Synthetic” receives awards, including first place on the national video charts.
London band
The London Indigo Child play an eclectic indie style influenced by older progressive and art-rock acts such as King Crimson, Roxy Music and Yes, as well as newer groups including Mystery Jets, Animal Collective and the Mars Volta. Their lineup uses a wide range of instruments and electronics, including saxophones, trombones, organs, synthesizers, sample machines and electronic drums alongside standard guitar-band instrumentation. Their first single, “Invisible Ink”, is released by Airbag Recordings in summer 2007.
Gabriel Gutiérrez
Indigo Child is also the recording name of Gabriel Gutiérrez, who is Canadian-born and raised in Chile. Under this name he makes experimental music combining electronic, rock and folk elements, with lyrics centred on duality, balance, nature and love. He self-releases an album titled Chocolate, which is made available as a free download on his MySpace page.
