Indecision

Indecision is a group from Charlottesville, United States, active from 1984 to the present. The name is used for more than one band, including a hardcore act from Brooklyn and a dark metal band from Melbourne, but the Charlottesville group is identified in the record as an alternative rock band from Virginia.

Formation and early years

The band begins performing together in 1980 while the members are still at high school, and starts rehearsing regularly under the name Indecision in 1983. It makes its official nightclub debut in 1984 at the Mineshaft Cellar in Charlottesville, Virginia. For the first several years it plays mainly in Virginia, the Carolinas and the Washington, DC area, while the members attend college.

Line-up

The original line-up includes Aaron Evans on guitar and vocals, David Ibbeken on guitar and vocals, Craig Dougald on drums and vocals, and Shawn McCrystal on bass. Dan McCrystal is the sound engineer. Doug Wanamaker performs with the band for about a year before officially joining in 1989 on keyboards and vocals. Chris White begins sitting in with the band in 1987 on acoustic guitar and vocals and officially joins at the beginning of 1990.

Touring and collaborations

By late 1989, Indecision is touring nationally and shares stages with a wide range of acts, including The Neville Brothers, Phish, Widespread Panic, Blues Traveler, Dave Matthews Band, Jorma Kaukonen, Paul Barrere, Danny Gatton, Zero, Hootie and the Blowfish, The White Animals, Waxing Poetics, New Potato Caboose, Blue Dixie, Purple Schoolbus, Max Creek, The Connells, The Wailers, The Grapes, The Smithereens, All Good, Go Ahead, Living Earth, Blue Dogs, Freddie Jones Band, Marshal Crenshaw, The Feelies, David Alan Coe, Drivin' & Crying and Jupiter Coyote.

Recordings

Indecision releases several recordings over the years. Its first release, Indecision, appears on vinyl in 1986. Ponder Yonder follows in 1991, and Reservoir in 1993. In 1996 the band releases a live recording from the Chameleon Club in Atlanta, produced by digital media manager Duncan Freeman. In September 2004 it releases the studio album The Great Road. Two digital-only releases follow in 2006 and 2007: Black Water Sunday, a set of live recordings from 2003 to 2004 at various venues in the Southeast, and Live: Volume One. The band continues to release live recordings.
