Incisions

Incisions is a dance music act whose listed genres include dance, house, techno and trance. It begins in early 2012 in Albany, New York, when Brandon McNeary and Nicholas Rossi form the group under the name Vagrants. Brian Cooke, previously of Realms, and vocalist Jesse Addington, formerly of Caught Red Handed, later join them, followed by bassist Dave Greene, who also plays with Dawn Of The Hero. With this line-up, the group develops as a five-piece and records material at Lions Den Recording Studio with Brandon John of Restless Streets.

Early releases and line-up changes

The group records a five-track EP and releases the songs individually as a demonstration of its direction before deciding to play live shows as well as work in the studio. Its first EP, Signal, is released in mixed and mastered form in 2013. The track “Neurons” appears in a Deathcore Specialists sampler shortly after the EP’s release.

In November 2013, the group becomes a three-piece after the departure of Nick and Brandon, then adds former Dressed In Red drummer Shane Dir. Around this point, the name changes from Vagrants to Incisions, a title chosen to suggest a darker side of humanity.

Style and later work

The group’s recorded material includes the tracks “Genuflections”, “Obscura” and “Ascension”, which present a range from high vocals and heavy grooves to instrumental and melodic sections. Its stated influences include After The Burial, The Contortionist, Volumes and Meshuggah. It is also described as working on a first full-length album titled Desolation.
