Impetuous Ritual is an Australian death metal group from Brisbane. It forms in 2009 and is active from 2006 to the present.

Style and sound

The band plays a harsh, underground form of death metal with a strongly atmospheric feel. Its sound draws on the darkness of early Incantation, the brutal force associated with Bestial Warlust, and the deep, subterranean character of dISEMBOWELMENT. The music is described through blurred and surreal riffs, a heavy rhythm section, and very deep growled vocals, with raw and murky production.

Debut album

Its debut full-length, Relentless Execution Of Ceremonial Excrescence, is presented as a key release in brutal underground death metal. The album is associated with the same extreme death metal tradition as records such as Onward To Golgotha, Blood & Valour, Transcendence Into The Peripheral, and with contemporary underground acts including Teitanblood, Grave Miasma, Necros Christos, and Dead Congregation.

Membership and context

The group features two members of Portal, another death metal band from Australia. Impetuous Ritual is also placed within the Australian underground death metal scene alongside the bands that influence its sound.
