IG Culture is the performance name of Ian Grant, a London musician and producer associated with broken beat, nu jazz, afrobeat, jazz and hip-hop. He is known as a pioneer of the broken beat movement, and his production work blends rhythms and elements drawn from jazz-fusion, funk and soul.

Career

He first comes to prominence as a member of the hip-hop duo Dodge City Productions in 1990. After that project ends, he sets up the independent label One Drop Interouter, which releases four albums. He later works with the People and founds the Main Squeeze labels.

Production and collaborations

IG Culture produces Jazz Brat by the British jazz artist Michiru in 1995. He also appears on Roots Manuva’s Brand New Second Hand in 1999. In 2001, he compiles and releases a various-artists set called Inspirations, which is followed by a two-CD edition of the same name in 2003. He also produces Les Nubians’ One Step Forward, released in 2003.
