Ida Engberg is a Swedish DJ who plays house, tech house, techno, minimal and electro, and describes her style as underground electronic dance music. Born in 1984 in a suburb of Stockholm, she is based on Lidingö, an island outside the city. She also spends time in Marbella and Ibiza, both of which she has lived in for extended periods.

Career

Engberg starts DJing at 18, after first learning some mixing from a boyfriend who DJs when she is 14. Her first club set happens by chance when she fills in for a sick resident DJ at a venue run by a friend. Soon afterwards she is asked to play at The Spy Bar, one of Stockholm’s best-known after-hours clubs, which establishes her career as a DJ.

She is the resident DJ at Stockholm’s Cocktail Club, where she develops a polished club style over time. She says she plays music that “touches my soul,” and her sets draw on deep house, tech house, funky techno, minimal and electro.

Performances and collaborations

Engberg plays alongside a range of DJs and electronic artists, including Roger Sanchez, Damian Lazarus, Jennifer Cardini, David West, John Dahlbäck, Jesper Dahlbäck, Sebastian Ingrosso, Eric Prydz, The Knife, Jo Mills, Joel Mull, Aril Brikha, Anja Schneider, Özgur Can, Steve Lawler, Nic Fanciulli and Misstress Barbara.

Style and identity

She describes her sound as rooted in underground electronic dance music, and her career is shaped by Stockholm’s club scene. Her background includes work as a resident DJ in the city and a move between Stockholm, Marbella, Ibiza and Lidingö.
