ICON

ICON is an American hard rock band from Phoenix, Arizona. It begins in 1979 under the name Schoolboys and forms in 1981 with high school friends Dan Wexler on guitar, Stephen Clifford on lead vocals and Tracy Wallach on bass. Dave Henzerling joins on guitar and John Covington on drums, completing an early lineup that later changes as the band develops.

Early line-up and label signing

By 1984, ICON signs to Capitol Records. Before that point, Henzerling and Covington have left the group and are replaced by John Aquilino on guitar and Pat Dixon on drums. Dixon is also a former drummer for Loosely Tight. The band is associated with hard rock, glam, glam metal, heavy metal, metal and AOR, and is also described as an Arizona hair metal band.
