Icicle is the alias of Jeroen Snik, a drum and bass and dubstep producer and DJ born in 1985. He is based in Eindhoven and is originally from Holland.

Background

He starts playing piano at the age of eight and later moves on to drums. He begins making beats on an old MIDI setup, then becomes interested in drum and bass at 15 after attending a local night called Jungle Galaxy. He then gets turntables and better production software and develops his work as an electronic artist.

Style and influences

Icicle’s music draws on the bass-heavy style of Jonny L and Optical and the detailed drum programming associated with Photek and Source Direct. His sound is described as tech funk, with connections to drum and bass, liquid funk, dubstep and broader electronic music.

He releases music on several labels, including RAM, Shogun Audio, Soul:R, Renegade Hardware and Critical, and is committed to Shogun Audio’s imprint. He also appears on Entropy Music.
