Ice Nine Kills

Ice Nine Kills is a Boston, United States group active since 2002. It works in alternative metal, heavy metal, melodic metalcore, metalcore, post-hardcore, and related screamo and emo styles. The band is signed to Fearless Records and is known for horror-themed lyrics and a theatrical presentation.

History

The group forms in 2000 by high school friends Spencer Charnas and Jeremy Schwartz, with Charnas remaining the only founding member still active. Its name refers to ice-nine, the fictional substance in Kurt Vonnegut’s novel Cat’s Cradle.

Releases and chart success

Ice Nine Kills releases three extended plays and six full-length studio albums. These include Last Chance to Make Amends, Safe Is Just a Shadow, and The Predator Becomes the Prey. The fourth album, Every Trick in the Book, reaches number 122 on the US Billboard 200, while The Silver Scream peaks at number 29. The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood reaches number 18 on the same chart.

Members include Spencer Charnas, Jeremy Schwartz, Andrew Justin Smith, Grant Newsted, Hobie Boeschenstein, Dave Marvuglio, Dave Sieling, Shane Bisnett, Justin Morrow, Conor Sullivan, Justin deBlieck, Steve Koch, Dan Sugarman, Ricky Armellino, Patrick Galante, and Chris Kelly. Charnas serves as lead vocalist and also plays additional guitar, bass, and drums at different points in the group’s history. Ricky Armellino contributes rhythm guitar, occasional co-lead vocals, and backing vocals; Joe Occhiuti plays bass, co-lead vocals, and keyboards; Dan Sugarman plays lead guitar and backing vocals; Miles Dimitri Baker plays lead and rhythm guitar with backing vocals; and Mike Cortada plays drums.
