Ian Pooley
Ian Pooley, born Ian Pinnekamp in 1973, is a German DJ and record producer from Mainz, Germany. He begins releasing music in 1993 and works mainly in house and tech house, with further links to deep house, funky house, balearic beat, techno and Brazilian-influenced electronic music. His productions often use samples from different styles, and his output is associated with a strong Brazilian flavour.
Career
Pooley starts his career after being inspired by producers from Chicago and Detroit, then begins writing house and techno on his first machines. His work reaches a wide range of audiences over a long period, and in 1998 he makes his only appearance on BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix. That set includes music by Slam, Jeff Mills and Pooley’s own productions.
Record labels and releases
After a long period on V2 Records, he releases a number of successful albums there, including Meridian and Since Then. In 2003 he leaves V2 and founds his own label, Pooled Music.
Collaborations and remixes
Pooley names Brazilian music as a key influence, and that influence appears on albums such as Brazilution 5.3 and Souvenirs. He works with artists including Rosanna, Zelia and veteran Brazilian musician Marcos Valle. He also remixes music by Deee-Lite, The Cardigans, Daft Punk, Cirque du Soleil, Carl Cox and Bob Sinclar.
