I the Mighty

I the Mighty are a post-hardcore, alternative rock and progressive rock group from San Francisco, California. The band forms in 2007 and is active through the present. The lineup includes Ian Pedigo, Brent Walsh, Blake Dahlinger and Chris Hinkley, with Walsh as singer.

Career

The band begins to attract attention with its debut EP, Hearts and Spades, which establishes their sound through high-energy, technical guitar work and Walsh’s distinctive vocal style. Their music is compared with acts such as Circa Survive and Say Anything. Around the release of the EP, the band reaches the music director at San Francisco station Live 105, helping them gain regular radio play and wider exposure on the West Coast.

I the Mighty also secure support slots for Deftones, Hawthorne Heights and There For Tomorrow, and play packed venues along the West Coast. Their early profile grows further through coverage in Alternative Press, AMP Magazine and AbsolutePunk.net.

Release strategy and label work

For Hearts and Spades, the band uses a “track hunt” promotion, placing songs across different social media sites and later on Purevolume.com. Walsh says the aim is to introduce the band and the EP to as many people as possible and to build direct connections with listeners. The approach leads to more than 3,500 full EP downloads within the first three months of release.

The band signs to Equal Vision Records and releases three albums on the label. Their run as a band ends in 2020 following sexual assault allegations against Walsh.
