I Monster

I Monster is a Sheffield, United Kingdom electronic music group made up of Dean Honer and Jarrod Gosling. Active since 1997, the duo work across downtempo, electro, electronic, electronica, electropop and hauntology, and are associated with trip-hop, chillout and lounge.

Career

The group form in 1997 and release their debut album These Are Our Children. In 2001 they sign to Instant Karma/Sony Records and issue the single Daydream In Blue, which becomes a UK Top 20 hit. The track later appears in a number of television advertising campaigns, and in 2007 Chicago rapper Lupe Fiasco samples it heavily, replacing the vocoder sections with rap.

Their second album, Neveroddoreven, follows in 2004 and includes the singles Who Is She and Hey Mrs. That same year, the film Shaun of the Dead uses I Monster’s The Blue Wrath over its opening credits.

In March 2009 the group release their third album, A Dense Swarm of Ancient Stars. They also mix the two-disc Art of Chill 6: Mixed by I Monster for Platipus Records’ Art of Chill series, which is released later in 2009.

Work with other acts

I Monster produce Credo by Sheffield band The Human League, which appears on Wall Of Sound in 2011. They also work on albums by two spin-off projects, Skywatchers and People Soup. Jarrod Gosling also releases a progressive rock album under the name Regal Worm.
