Hyper

Hyper is a British breakbeat and electronic group from the United Kingdom. The act is associated with Jim Davies, Guy Hatfield, Kieron Pepper, John Ross and Leeroy Thornhill, and is linked to nu skool breaks as well as breakbeat and electronic music.

Background

The project begins with DJ and producer Guy Hatfield, who works under the name Hyper. He starts releasing music under that name in 1999 with the 12-inch Blaze It Up. Hyper releases material on Distinct'ive Breaks Records, Bedrock Records and Positiva Recordings, and also makes remixes for artists including BT and Paul Van Dyk.

We Control and the live band

Hyper's first studio album, We Control, leads to the formation of Hyper as a live band. The recording process brings together Hatfield and production partner Ronnie with a number of collaborators, including Leeroy Thornhill, Wildchild, The Crystal Method, Jim Davies, Dirty Harry, MC Xander and Kieron Pepper. The album draws on samples and ideas from groups such as Killing Joke, Adam & The Ants and Anti-Nowhere League, and develops into a live production rather than remaining a studio-only project.

Live appearances and later album

We Control takes Hyper to festival stages including Glastonbury, Glade, Sziget Festival in Hungary and Coliseo Ciudad de Atarfe in Spain. The act also plans a second full-length album, The Panic.
