Hugo Barriol is a French singer/songwriter from Paris. He begins his music career busking in Sydney, Australia, before winning the Metro Music Awards in Paris in 2015. He records his debut EP in 2017, and the single “On the road” reaches more than 7 million streams.
His debut album, Yellow, is released in 2019 and is produced by Ian Grimble, who has worked with Bear’s Den and Mumford and Sons. In the same period he plays more than 40 shows and festivals across Europe. After living in Sydney and Paris, he moves to London in August 2019.
Music and style
Barriol describes his music as melancholic, sometimes sad but hopeful, with songs that turn painful or difficult thoughts into something more beautiful. He says he writes stories and aims for music that can be delicate, soft and sometimes tribal while remaining honest. His sound draws on folk, pop, rock and indie.
