HSY

HSY is a Toronto sludge punk group formed in 2011. The band develops a sound that draws on punk, noise, sludge and industrial elements, and it also folds in garage influences. Its music is described as reflecting the city’s darker side, with reference points that include the post-punk of Section 25 and the sludge metal of The Melvins.

Debut release

After around two years in its first incarnation and once a full lineup is in place, HSY records its self-titled debut EP outside Toronto. The EP is captured by Dean Tzenos and Ian Gomes in an empty small-town church, isolated from the outside world, and it is later released in 2013. The release attracts attention from Pitchfork, Stereogum and Noisey.
