Howling Owl

Howling Owl is a Latvian avant-pop duo formed in 2015 and based in Groningen, in the Netherlands. The group consists of Evija Vēbere, who performs on synthesizers and vocals, and Lav Kovač, who plays drums.

The duo works with vocals, synthesizers, drums, electronic effects and other small instruments. Their music moves between fragile, intimate passages and more forceful, vigorous sections, and it draws on songcraft as well as experimentation. Their performances combine a wide range of influences and often shift between punk-like energy and a more tender, reflective approach.

Howling Owl’s work is shaped by the nature, people and events around them, along with the broader mix of music they listen to. Their live presentation is described as a collage-like sequence of sound images, with a sense of movement and narrative.
