HOSTILE

HOSTILE is a metal band formed in 2006 by lead guitarist A.J. The line-up includes vocalist Jay, drummer Gunga and bassist Alex Hill, who is described as the son of Ian Hill. The band is based in the Black Country and presents itself as connected to the Birmingham area and the wider heritage of heavy metal there.

Career and live work

HOSTILE becomes known on the UK live circuit and plays venues including Wolverhampton Civic Hall. The band also supports Soulfly and Morbid Angel, and later performs at Download Festival at Donington Park. It also supports Cavalera Conspiracy at the London Astoria.

Recording and collaborators

K.K. Downing of Judas Priest takes an interest in the band after seeing it live and agrees to produce its debut album. He also writes a song for the group called “Addiction”, which is noted as his first song written outside Judas Priest. The album is recorded at The Old Smithy studios, where Judas Priest records Angel of Retribution and Nostradamus, and Richard Wood engineers the sessions. HOSTILE’s debut album is titled Eve of Destruction.

Style and background

The band is presented as part of heavy metal, with its identity closely tied to the Black Country and Birmingham metal tradition. A.J. says the group lives and breathes heavy metal and aims to follow in the lineage of Judas Priest and Black Sabbath.
