Horseman

Horseman is the stage name of Winston Williams, a UK reggae and dancehall artist known as both a drummer and an MC. He works with Upper Cut Band and is also described as being from the United Kingdom.

Career

After three decades of working in reggae, Horseman moves into the spotlight in 2014 with Dawn Of The Dread, an album produced by Prince Fatty and released on Mr Bongo. His work spans reggae and dancehall, and he appears as a versatile performer rather than a singer alone, combining drumming and vocal delivery.

Collaborations and performance history

Horseman works with a wide range of reggae figures and associated musicians, including Tippa Irie, Max Romeo, Gregory Isaacs, Sugar Minott, Jah Shaka, Mad Professor, Barrington Levy, Eeka Mouse and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with John Holt. More recently he performs with Hollie Cook and Prince Fatty.

Background

Music runs through Horseman’s family. His father has a sound system, and his mother, Eureka Icelyn Barnes, performs as Miss Girlie and records with Laurel Aitken and Palmer Dice in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Those recordings are collectible today.

Style and outlook

Horseman presents himself as an artist whose aim is to bring people together through music, with an emphasis on enjoyment rather than competition.
