Honkeyfinger is a one-man band from Bethnal Green. The project plays blues-based music described through a mix of skronk blues, beast rock, punk blues, lo-fi and experimental elements.

Sound and approach

Honkeyfinger’s music centres on a heavily amplified solo setup. The performance uses lap steel guitar, harmonica, floor drum, beatbox looping and fuzz effects to create a full-band sound from one performer. The lap steel is pushed through heavy distortion, while the harmonica is played in a raw, guttural style. The percussion is built from an irregular floor drum pulse, with looping used to layer rhythms.

The style draws on pre-war country blues, then moves through early-1970s hard-edged rock references such as Detroit rock, Black Sabbath and Blue Cheer. It also takes in punk rock, hip hop and modern stomp-box looping and valve fuzz effects. The description places the project in a lineage of stripped-back but aggressive blues and rock forms.

Debut release

The debut album, Invocation of The Demon Other, contains 15 tracks. Its themes include love, loss, anger, rage and frustration, and it is presented as an expression of a singular rock vision.
