Holy Wars
Holy Wars is an alternative rock group from Los Angeles, United States. The project is led by Kat Leon, also known as Katherine Pawlak, who founded it in 2017 after previously performing with the L.A. indie band Sad Robot. The group is active from 2013 to the present according to the available record, and its current members are Kat Leon and Nicolas Perez.
Background
Before Holy Wars, Leon fronts Sad Robot and works with musician Nick Perez on recordings, videos, studio sessions, album release activity and photo shoots. Her writing and imagery are shaped by themes of death and the occult, and the loss of both parents in 2015 leads to a period in which she stops performing. Holy Wars emerges after that period as a response to grief and inner conflict, with Leon describing the first songs as a set of letters to grief.
Style and output
The band's sound sits within alternative metal, rock and alternative rock, with elements that also align it with indie and dark pop. Its music uses twisting chord progressions, forceful riffs and melodic hooks, while Leon's voice is described as powerful and direct rather than understated. The material is often framed by contrasts between sacred and martial imagery, as well as doubt and hope.
Label
Holy Wars releases music on VERSION III.
