Holy State

Holy State is a Leeds and Norwich-based hardcore punk and post-hardcore group. Their sound draws on post-hardcore, alt-rock and indie influences, with reference points including Girls Against Boys, The Jesus Lizard and The Fall, alongside the wall-of-sound production associated with Phil Spector and the sci-fi surf elements of Man or Astroman?.

Releases and labels

The band releases split singles on Holy Roar Records, including releases connected with Pulled Apart by Horses and Brontide. They also appear on Music Sounds Better With Huw – Volume 1 on Wichita, alongside other acts selected by Huw Stephens. DTTR first works with the band on Jagged Lines, which appears on the second of its 4x12" vinyl compilations.

Live appearances

Holy State opens the DTTR Stage at Leeds Festival, helping launch the weekend’s performances before an audience of several thousand. The line-up around that event includes Blood Red Shoes, Wild Beasts, Bear Hands and Airship.
