Holtoug is a Copenhagen-based DJ and producer from Copenhagen Municipality. He begins as part of the Danish indie rock scene, working with acts including Lily Electric, Death By Kite and Decorate Decorate, before moving further into electronic music production.

Background

He works across a wide stylistic range, but his music is described as tending towards detailed production, moody textures and dramatic contrasts. His sound is shaped by an interest in melancholic and atmospheric material, alongside an increasing focus on techno and house.

Work in the Danish music scene

Before concentrating on his own electronic output, Holtoug spends many years as a producer, mixer and remixer within the Danish alternative scene. He works with or for local artists including Lily Electric, Decorate Decorate, Oh No Ono, TurboWeekend, Speaker Bite Me and Death By Kite. He also becomes known in Copenhagen as a house remixer and DJ, performing at major clubs in the city.

Releases and remixes

His output includes three EPs, three albums, numerous charting tracks and a number of remixes. He also remixes material for artists such as TurboWeekend, Giana Factory, HanKat, Rosa Lux and Oh No Ono.

Style and development

Holtoug’s move into techno grows out of a long-standing interest in rock, alternative music and electronic experimentation. A flight to Berlin while working on the Lily Electric album You’re In The Painting You Saw becomes a turning point, leading to a stronger commitment to techno alongside his earlier indie and alternative background.
