Holiday

Holiday is a US indie-pop group from New Haven and Brooklyn that is active between 1992 and 1997. The line-up centres on Justin Niimi, with the group also associated with Josh Gennet on guitar and vocals, Andrew Park on bass and vocals, and Matt Snow on guitar. It forms at Yale University in late 1992, originally under the name Wimp Rocket.

Recording history

The band self-releases a debut cassette, The Big Pickle, in 1993. It then adds drummer Paul Moyano and goes to Chicago to record its first official EP, My Roommate Joe, produced by Dave Trumfio. Calvin Chin later replaces Moyano, and Holiday issues the single Permission Slip followed by Prostitutes in Town in 1994.

Albums and later releases

Holiday signs with March Records for its self-titled debut album, which appears in February and becomes known for its airy, shimmering sound within underground pop circles. A follow-up album, Ready, Steady, Go!, appears in 1996 and also gains cult attention. J. Niimi replaces Chin on drums for Cafe Reggio in 1997, but the group is already finished by the time it is released.

Breakup and aftermath

The band disbands after appearing at New York Popfest in January 1997. After Holiday ends, Josh Gennet records as the Singletons.
