highs

highs is a Toronto indie rock band. The group also works in indie pop and dream pop, and it develops an alt-pop sound that draws on bedroom demos, festival-ready arrangements and personal themes.

Early releases and label

The band’s self-titled EP is a six-track release centred on growing up, the idea of home and spirituality. It is produced and engineered at Verge Music Lab by Steve Major, whose credits include Death From Above 1979, Island, Whitehorse and Great Lake Swimmers. The EP leads to a recording deal with Indica Records in 2014.

Recognition and airplay

The track “Nomads” from the debut EP is placed in John Cusack’s film Adult World. The band also reaches the Top 30 of the Hype Machine charts, appears on the CMJ Top 200 chart, and gets single “Summer Dress” to number one on CBC Radio 3.

Performances and collaborators

highs shares stages with Cold War Kids, Twin Forks, Hey Ocean, Kopecky Family Band and Rich Aucoin across Canada. The group also plays UK festival dates at Focus Wales and The Great Escape.

Album work

The band begins work on a full-length debut album after a spring studio session with producer Luke Smith, whose credits include Foals and Lily Allen. The album is prepared for international release in 2015.
