Hexstatic
Hexstatic is a UK electronic music duo made up of Stuart Warren Hill and Robin Brunson. Formed in 1997, the pair meet while producing visuals at the Channel Five launch party and then take over from the original members of the Ninja Tune multimedia collective Hex after that project disbands. Their work focuses on combining music and visuals, and they describe their style as “quirky audio visual electro”.
Career and releases
Hexstatic work closely with Coldcut on the Natural Rhythms Trilogy, which includes the track Timber. That single becomes one of their best-known releases and is noted for its audio-visual format. Their two main album releases are issued as CD and DVD combinations, reflecting the group’s emphasis on integrated visual presentation. Their album Master-View includes 3D anaglyph versions of some of their music videos and is packaged with 3D glasses.
Visual work and collaborations
Beyond recording, Hexstatic are involved in developing VJ equipment, including the Pioneer DVJ-X1 professional DVD player. They also collaborate with EBN, Juice Aleem and David Byrne of Talking Heads, extending their work across electronic music, multimedia performance and visual design.
