Heron

Heron is a UK folk rock band that forms in 1967 and remains active. The group’s original line-up includes Roy Apps, G.T. Moore, Tony Pook and Steve Jones. Its sound sits in British folk rock and contemporary folk, with some recordings also moving towards pop rock.

Recordings and releases

The band releases two albums and two singles on Dawn between 1970 and 1972. Its self-titled debut is recorded outdoors in a field by the River Thames. The second album is a double album recorded outside a Devon country cottage and shows a wider range of styles, combining acoustic folk with more driving material.

After those early releases, some members go on to work with Shusha. G.T. Moore is also active with G.T. Moore and the Reggae Guitars, which continues until 1977. In 1983 a cassette titled Open Up the Road appears, after which Moore leaves, but the band continues to play live with Terry Clarke and Big Tom Robinson.

Later activity

In 2005 Gerry Power joins, and the band records a new album, Black Dog, again outdoors at Black Dog cottage in Devon. In 2006 Universal issues a two-CD anthology that includes seven previously unreleased recordings made for Dawn. The original line-up reunites in 2010 to record Simple As One Two Three for the Japanese label arm, and the album is released in 2011.
