Herman Düne

Herman Düne is a French anti-folk group formed in 1999. It is centred on André Herman Düne and David-Ivar Herman Düne, and its membership has also included the Swiss drummer Néman Herman Düne, who joins the band in early 2001 after replacing the former drummer Omé. The group is associated with indie, antifolk, folk, singer-songwriter and lo-fi styles.

Line-up and history

The band has roots in France, Sweden, Switzerland and Israel. David-Ivar Herman Düne performs guitars and vocals, while Néman Herman Düne plays drums and sometimes backing vocals. André Herman Düne leaves the group after the band’s final show together on 13 December 2006 and later performs as Stanley Brinks. From that point, the group uses the spelling Herman Dune, without the umlaut.

Collaborations and related work

Herman Düne works with a number of other artists, including Julie Doiron, Leah Hayes and Laura Hoch. The band also serves as the backing group for recordings by Julie Doiron and Kimya Dawson. André and David-Ivar each contribute a song to Françoiz Breut’s 2006 album Une Saison Volée.

Side projects and solo releases

Although the band has nine official albums, its members are involved in several side projects, including Kungen, Ben Haschish, Ben Dope, John Trawlings, Fountain Boats, Satan's Fingers and Fast Ganz. André and David-Ivar also release numerous solo CDs, many of them self-released CDRs.
