Heka is the project of Italian multi-disciplinary artist Francesca Brierley, who works between the Italian hills and London. Her music uses spectral vocals and lo-fi textures to create shifting soundscapes that move between clarity and static, with a strong sense of melancholy and intimacy.
Style and approach
Heka’s work blends electronic and organic elements rather than staying within a single genre. It combines lo-fi warmth, folk material and experimental production, with fragments of previously recorded phone conversations folded into the music. Her songs often connect themes of nature, automation, nostalgia and uncertainty.
Work as Heka
Under the name Heka, Brierley makes self-produced music that she describes as “butchered folk”, shaped into a hybrid sound with haunting and immersive qualities. The project is associated with psychedelic drone, dark ambient, ambient, electronic, art pop and psytrance influences.
