Hein Cooper
Hein Cooper is an Australian singer-songwriter and indie musician from Sydney. He is signed to Indica Records and builds songs around a blend of indie and pop, with emotive lyrics and a vocal style that is described as delicate and strained.
Career
In 2013, he is discovered while performing in a small bar in Sydney by Franz Schuller, the manager of Half Moon Run. He is then invited to write and demo songs in Montreal, Canada, where he is signed to Indica Records. After returning to Australia to continue developing his sound, he goes back to Montreal in 2014 to record his debut self-titled EP.
The EP is recorded with producer Marcus Paquin, whose credits include Arcade Fire, The National, The Local Natives and Hey Rosetta. Cooper performs at Canadian Music Week in Toronto and at festivals in Australia.
Songwriting themes
His early work on the EP centres on change, escapism and transformation. The track “The Art of Escape” reflects these ideas and he describes it as a call to displaced people and to anyone who feels alone in idealistic dreaming.
