Heidevolk
Heidevolk is a Dutch folk metal band from Arnhem, active since 2002. It begins under the name Hymir in September 2002 and later adopts the Heidevolk name. The group plays folk metal and viking metal, and its sound uses clean vocals and Dutch-language lyrics.
Style and themes
The band’s music draws on nature, mythology and the history of north-western Europe, with particular attention to the Dutch province of Gelderland. Its writing often focuses on paganism in the Netherlands, Gelderland, and the band’s interest in nature. The group also uses a distinctive stage presentation with an early-medieval or pagan character, along with alternating slow and fast rhythms and strong folk-music influences. Heidevolk is described as non-political and non-religious.
