Heid

Heid is a Swedish martial and dark ambient group, formed in 1997 and originally known as Gimla. The project begins with Kristian Olsson and Tolufim, and during work on the first album Peter “Parasoleil” Lindahl and Stefan Östlund join the line-up. The group develops a dark, dystopian sound and gains a strong reputation among listeners and scene press.

Releases and line-up changes

The debut album, Submitting to the Uprush of the Unconscious, comes out on Bastet Recordings. After that release, Heid signs to Malignant Records, and Stefan Östlund leaves the group. The second album, Arktogäa, takes more than a year to make and uses a more structured, mathematical approach, while also bringing in musique concrète and ethno-tinged passages. After Arktogäa, Tolufim leaves the project.

Later activity and legacy

Kristian Olsson and Peter Lindahl plan to continue, but Heid ends in July 2001. Cold Meat Industry later releases the retrospective CD Pilgrim of the Sublunary World in 2002. The project’s legacy continues through Survival Unit and L.E.A.K., both of which draw on different aspects of Heid’s sound.
