Heather Small is a singer from London, known for her work in dance-pop, house and soul. She first records with the English soul group Hot House, who chart in the UK with “Don’t Come to Stay” in 1987 and 1988. She later fronts M People, one of the best-known British dance acts of the 1990s, and also works as a solo artist.
M People
Small is best known as the lead singer of M People. Her career with the group spans more than seventeen years, and their best-known songs include “One Night in Heaven”, “Moving On Up” and “Search for the Hero”.
Solo work
As a solo performer, Small is associated with “Proud”, which becomes an anthem closely linked with Team GB. It serves as the unofficial song for Team GB in 2004 and later as the official anthem for the London Games in 2012.
Public appearances
Small remains in the public eye and performs at the 2012 celebration party for the handover of the Olympic Games from Beijing to London.
