Hearts Hearts

Hearts Hearts is an indie rock and indie pop group from Wien, Austria. The band forms in 2010 and remains active.

Formation and early development

The group begins as a duo made up of David Österle and Daniel Hämmerle. Their early sound starts as a sparse, stripped-back setup, then develops during recording sessions in a monastery in Upper Austria. Johannes Mandorfer joins on drums, and electronic musician Peter Paul Aufreiter becomes involved as producer before later joining as a full member.

Sound and collaboration

During the monastery sessions, the band works with long-term collaborator and improvising cellist Christina Ruf. Those sessions bring a denser sound and a stronger electronic element. The group works through the night with vintage equipment and effects units, and this process helps shape the framework of Young.

Debut recording

Hearts Hearts spends 2013 and 2014 arranging, recording, editing, and mixing its debut release.
