(həd) p.e., also known as Hed PE or (hed) Planet Earth, is an American rap metal group from Huntington Beach, United States. Formed in 1994, it is associated with nu metal and rapcore, and describes its own style as “G-punk”, a blend of punk rock and hip hop. The group remains active.

History

The band forms around rapper Jared Gomes, also known as M.C.U.D. or MC Underdog, and guitarist Wes Geer, who become friends in the Orange County hardcore punk scene. They recruit guitarist Chizad, bassist Mawk, drummer B.C. Vaught and DJ Product © 1969. The name “Hed” stands for “higher education”, and after legal issues the group adds “PE”, short for Planet Earth.

The band builds an early following through energetic performances at local venues and releases the self-financed EP Church of Realities. After releasing three albums on Jive, the group leaves the label to record independently, then signs with Suburban Noize in 2006.
