HBS, the solo project of Hunter Benedict Shepherd, is the work of Ben Shepherd, the bass player for the grunge band Soundgarden. Born in 1968 and associated with Okinawa and Seattle, he begins the project as an acoustic outlet before expanding it into recorded solo material.

Solo work

HBS’s first solo album, In Deep Owl, is released with contributions from Matt Cameron, who plays drums for Pearl Jam and is also a Soundgarden bandmate, and Matt Chamberlain, a former Pearl Jam drummer. The project sits within grunge and related rock styles, including alternative rock, garage rock and blues rock.
