Harry Shotta is a UK MC who works across drum and bass, jungle, hip hop and grime. He is associated with SaSaSaS, the Harry Shotta Show, and Lethal and Destruction, and records on Showtime Music.
Career
He begins in hip hop before moving into drum and bass, where his double-time flow becomes a key part of his style. An invitation from his lifelong friend MC Funsta to join him on the drum and bass stage at Notting Hill Carnival leads to a stream of drum and bass PA bookings and radio appearances.
He works with Skibadee on tracks in the hip hop scene, and one of these becomes a 1Xtra Record of the Week. He also appears at raves including Innovation, Breakin Science, Low Down Deep and Movement, and on radio stations including Kool FM, Cyndicut and Pyro.
UNCZ
Harry Shotta joins Skibadee, Funsta and Ruffstuff in UNCZ. The group appears on Kool FM in a back-to-back session with Dizzee Rascal and D Double E, and there is an album planned for the project alongside a series of videos.
Mixes and releases
His debut studio mix with KG passes 100,000 downloads. He follows it with the Zen mix, which also features Skibadee and Funsta, and later Bar Rage 2 and Hurricane Season Volume 1 with DJ Ruffstuff.
Awards
He is nominated as Best Breakthrough MC at the National DNB Awards within three months of entering the drum and bass scene. In 2009, he wins Best Breakthrough MC at the National Drum N Bass Awards in Birmingham and Best Newcomer MC at the Drum N Bass Arena Awards at the Ministry of Sound in London.
Style and later work
At the point described here, he is working on an album with a strong drum and bass focus, alongside influences from dubstep, grime, hip hop and electro.
