Harlots

Harlots are a US Midwest metal group with members based in Ohio, Wisconsin and Indiana. Their sound draws on technical and progressive metal and combines elements associated with deathcore, experimental metal, mathcore and metalcore, alongside hardcore and chaotic hardcore influences. The group is described as blending extreme music with ambient passages, and it cites influences that include Discordance Axis, Cryptopsy, Sigur Rós and Don Caballero.

History

Harlots form in December 2002 and release their first full-length album, The Woman You Saw is the Great City that Rules Over the Kings of the Earth, on Feeling Faint Productions in 2004. They tour heavily after that release, playing with acts including Amora Savant, Iscariot, Psyopus, Plague Bringer, Law of All Ends and See You Next Tuesday.

The group works on its second album, This is the Second Death, throughout 2004 and 2005. It is first attached to Lovelost Records for a November 2005 release, but after that arrangement falls through the album is issued by Corrosive Recordings in June 2006. Harlots then tour with Veil of Maya and Lye By Mistake and appear at Milwaukee’s Robot Mosh Fest alongside Ion Dissonance, Misery Index and The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza.

In 2007, Corrosive Recordings releases the eight-track EP The Human War Machine. The band’s third album, Betrayer, follows on Lifeforce Records in 2008. Recording for a fourth full-length begins in late 2008 and early 2009, but Jeff Lohrber later announces that the band is going on an indefinite hiatus. The group’s last show takes place at Robot Mosh Fest in 2008.

Members and later activity

The group includes Jeff Lohrber, and the listed members also include Eric Dunn and Joshua Dillon. After the hiatus announcement, Lohrber records and performs with Savior For A Fallen Hero, which also features Harlots vocalist Christian Fillippo, and with Kiss The Cobra. He also continues to fill in on drums for Shai Hulud and Dance Club Massacre tours and takes session work with Today Is The Day and Struck By Lightning. Dunn forms a new band called By Way of Sunstorm.
