Hardnoise is a British britcore group from the United Kingdom, active between 1989 and 1991. The group begins as a sound system made up largely of friends from school and college, centred on DJ Son, DJ Nyce 'D' and T.L.P.1.
Formation and line-up
At college, the group expands to include DJ AJ and Gemini, and they work on their first track, Pure Destructive Power, which remains unreleased. DJ Nyce 'D' is later noted as having died. The crew also includes DJ Mada, who joins as a newer member and contributes cuts.
Recordings and releases
Hardnoise’s first release is Untitled, described as an underground British rap track built around an Apache sample. It is produced by DJ Son, T.L.P.1 and Mastermix, with cuts by DJ Son and DJ Mada. The release is self-financed before Music Of Life signs the group.
Their second release is the single Mice In The Presence Of The Lion / Serve Tea Then Murder. On this release, the MCs perform solo tracks that show different styles. It is the group’s final release.
After Hardnoise
After the group disappears from the scene, the members continue in separate projects. AJ produces beats and releases mixtapes under A.J's Planet of the Beats. Gemini works on the Bushkilla tracks and later uses the name BLOODHOUND. DJ Son DJs in clubs in London, playing soul, funk, breaks and rap. Some former members later form Son Of Noise. T.L.P.1 is not heard from later, though there are rumours that he continues to write lyrics. DJ Mada also remains active and runs a website focused on British rap.
