Harakiri for the Sky is an Austrian post-black metal group from Wien, active since 2011. The project begins in Salzburg and Vienna and is formed by vocalist J.J. (Michael, previously known as V. Wahntraum) and multi-instrumentalist Matthias “M.S.” Sollak, who is also known as Sollo from the black metal band Bifröst. The act works within atmospheric black metal, blackgaze, post-metal and black metal, and combines harsh black metal elements with melodic and post-rock passages.
Releases
The band releases four studio albums on the German label Art of Propaganda: Harakiri for the Sky, Aokigahara, III: Trauma and Arson. These records establish the group’s blend of raw and melodic textures across its discography.
Live line-up and activity
For live performances, J.J. and M.S. are joined by bassist Thomas Dornig, drummer Mischa Bruemmer and guitarist Marrok. The band tours with acts including Der Weg einer Freiheit and The Great Old Ones, and also appears at Summer Breeze Open Air.
Recognition
In 2017, Harakiri for the Sky is nominated in the “Hard & Heavy” category at the Amadeus Austrian Music Awards.
